Alan Western

Alan Western

As a  singer/songwriter, jazz singer, compere, cabaret artiste and actor, Alan’s years in show business have gathered him a wealth of experience as an entertainer. His stylish vocals, bright personality and good humour appeal to audiences everywhere.

Arriving from the UK in 1982 with an already impressively long career in show business Alan was quickly involved in TV productions of the day, winning acclaim in such shows as New Faces, Stairway to the Stars and Conway Country. Soon recognised as a jazz singer, he joined the Brisbane Big Band as resident vocalist in 1989 and was appointed manager of the band in 2008. He has since broadened the band’s perspective by introducing different guest vocalists every month, providing the much-needed opportunity to extend their talent with the experience of singing with a full big band.

Alan’s energy and experience has been well used since joining the BJC Committee in 2008 and becoming Vice-President in 2016. He inaugurated the extremely successful Brisbane Big Band Festival in 2012 and formed the popular Men About Town  jazzy vocal group in 2016.
A firm supporter of JSJN, Alan worked closely with Ingrid James on the production of the JSJN Anniversary double CD.
