KINGS AND QUEENS OF VOCAL JAZZ

Last year, we honoured some amazing legendary singers at the Brisbane Vocal Jazz Festival’s closing event. This year, along with the Dave Spicer Trio, we will present another 6 singers to honour some of the legends of vocal jazz – from Louis Prima, an American singer, actor, songwriter and trumpeter, who was rooted in New Orleans jazz, jump blues and swing to the cool jazz, straight ahead cultural icon of the 1950’s, Chet Baker, and former child prodigy, jazz guitarist/singer George Benson, who manages to comfortably and legitimately alternate between jazz, pop and R’n’B.  Female legends featuring in this show include “Sassy” or “The Divine One”, Sarah Vaughan, to the enchanting Lena Horne, who was at home with Broadway, blues and jazz, and multi-faceted artist and performer, Peggy Lee, who’s career spanned 6 decades. Artists who will bring together this diverse program of vocal jazz include: Angela Fabian (Sarah Vaughan), Trudy Kerr (Lena Horne), Rebecca Lloyd (Peggy Lee), Paul Armstrong (Louis Prima), Dave Spicer (Chet) and Julian Jones (George Benson)

WORKSHOP with RHIANNON & Laurence Hobgood

IT’S ALL MUSIC with RHIANNON (USA) & LAURENCE HOBGOOD (USA)

Rhiannon, direct from USA and a “vocal improvisation master” (New York City Jazz Record), who was in the original Voicestra with Bobby McFerrin and has been touring the world with McFerrin recently, along with USA Grammy-winning “piano virtuoso” (New York Times), Laurence Hobgood, will present a workshop where they will examine and experience the connective tissue that bridges pure improvisation and song form – the art of arranging. Together they will demystify the process of song building, and free your improvisational skills! This is Rhiannon’s first trip to Australia and it’s not to be missed.

All levels welcome!
