ACT 2 – Melissa Forbes & Helen Russell Duo

Melissa Forbes (vocals, piano) and Helen Russell (double bass, vocals) share a love of great melodies, beautiful harmonies and the serendipity when both elements are “tied up with a bow” in the great jazz standards. Explore some well-known songs and hidden gems with Helen and Melissa as they pair voices to present an intimate set which celebrates some of the  best songs in the vocal jazz repertoire.
Helen Russell’s latest venture is to step out of the backing vocalist/harmony singer shadows and begin featuring herself as jazz vocalist, combing the standard repertoire for neglected gems. Check out Melissa’s Facebook Page.

Celebrating  ELLA FITZGERALD’S 100TH ANNIVERSARY
with Ingrid James (host)

Ella Jane Fitzgerald (April 25, 1917 – June 15, 1996) was an American jazz singer often referred to as the First Lady of Song, Queen of Jazz and Lady Ella. She was noted for her purity of tone, impeccable diction, phrasing and intonation, and a “horn-like” improvisational ability, particularly in her scat singing. Tonight we celebrate her life through stories and song with singers who have been inspired and influenced by her in their musical careers.

Guest singers: Leigh Carriage (NS), Toni Allayialis-Hepi (Gold Coast), Denise Harris (Sunshine Coast), Maggie Britton (Gold Coast), Di Clark and Jessica Spina

Accompanying trio will be Steve Russell (piano), Owen Newcomb (bass) and Paul Hudson (drums).
