KINGS AND QUEENS OF VOCAL JAZZ

Last year, we honoured some amazing legendary singers at the Brisbane Vocal Jazz Festival’s closing event. This year, along with the Dave Spicer Trio, we will present another 6 singers to honour some of the legends of vocal jazz. From Louis Prima, an American singer, actor, songwriter and trumpeter, who was rooted in New Orleans jazz, jump blues and swing; to the cool jazz, straight ahead cultural icon of the 1950’s, Chet Baker; and former child prodigy, jazz guitarist/singer George Benson, who manages to comfortably and legitimately alternate between jazz, pop and R’n’B.  Female legends featuring in this show include “Sassy” or “The Divine One”, Sarah Vaughan; the enchanting Lena Horne, who was at home with Broadway, blues and jazz; and multi-faceted artist and performer Peggy Lee, whose career spanned 6 decades. Artists who will bring together this diverse program of vocal jazz are: Angela Fabian (Sarah Vaughan), Trudy Kerr (Lena Horne), Rebecca Lloyd (Peggy Lee), Paul Armstrong (Louis Prima), Dave Spicer (Chet Baker) and Julian Jones (George Benson).
