Steve Taylor–Brown has experienced a diverse range of vocal styles throughout his life; Classical, Pop and “Standards.” While completing his formal training at the Newcastle and Sydney Conservatoriums as an opera singer, Steve began to listen to the sounds of swing and big band music in the corridors at the Con, which eventually convinced him that this was the music for him. The great songs of the 30’s and 40’s from composers such as Cole Porter, Rogers & Hart, Gershwin and singers such as Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Peggy Lee, Tony Bennett and Frank Sinatra have influenced his style and delivery.
Steve is one of the most established singers in this country today and has been a regular performer at major Music festivals and venues not to mention numerous appearances on National Television. He has also performed in South East Asia and was invited to China to perform 4 sell out concerts with his Big Band by invitation of Qantas and the Portman Shanghai Shangri-La Hotel.
As a composer, he has represented Australia with his own composition “State Of Mind” and has released a CD by the same name which reflects his diverse musical background. This album was recorded with some of Australia’s elite musicians including Don Burrows, Graeme Jessie, David Jones, John Hoffman, Leon Gear, Bob Johnson to name a few.
While continuing to perform on the national music circuit, Steve is currently compiling material for his next CD release. In the meantime, if you have the desire to be entertained with style and sophistication then treat yourself to a performance of Steve Taylor-Brown, the “Voice that sings”.
