Sunday Daytime Concerts

SUNDAY 6 AUGUST 2017
3 ACTS – 10AM TO 1PM

ACT 1 – THE HARMONY WEDNESDAYS –  led by Helen Russell

The Harmony Wednesdays is an a cappella group formed in 2016 by USQ music lecturer Helen Russell. The group comprises music lecturers, music alumni and current Bachelor of Creative Arts music students.  This vocal  group performs in a wide range of styles, including baroque, jazz and pop, and features arrangements by Helen Russell.

ACT 2 – Melissa Forbes & Helen Russell Duo

Melissa Forbes (vocals, piano) and Helen Russell (double bass, vocals) share a love of great melodies, beautiful harmonies and the serendipity when both elements are “tied up with a bow” in the great jazz standards. Explore some well-known songs and hidden gems with Helen and Melissa as they pair voices to present an intimate set which celebrates some of the  best songs in the vocal jazz repertoire.
Helen Russell’s latest venture is to step out of the backing vocalist/harmony singer shadows and begin featuring herself as jazz vocalist, combing the standard repertoire for neglected gems.

HELEN RUSSELL (VOICE/BASS)          MELISSA FORBES (VOICE)

ACT 3  – Elly Hoyt & Boutique Brews Brass Band

Award winning jazz vocalist, Elly Hoyt joins forces with Brisbane’s foot stompin’ and high-energy band, Boutique Brews Brass Band. Together they will play original songs and classic radio hits in a New Orleans Brass style while blending elements of funk, jazz, latin and soul.

If you love the likes of Trombone Shorty, Dr John, Kermit Ruffins and brass bands such as Rebirth, The Soul Rebels, New Breed, Dirty Dozen and Young Blood, you will surely enjoy Boutique Brews.

This collaboration with Elly Hoyt is the first of its kind and will be remembered in years to come.

Have a Sunday brew and don’t forget your dancing shoes.
