VELVET PESU

Velvet Pesu is an independent singer/songwriter, musician and visual/performance artist.  Her idiosyncratic vocal resonance is deeply rooted in jazz, gospel, world rhythms and ancient folksong traditions.  It is her aim to unify diverse concepts, transcend borders, overcome adversity and connect communities by providing a glimpse into the ephemeral nature of human expression, fragmentation of perception and the interconnected nature of all.

‘It is difficult to say where Velvet’s art begins and where Velvet the artist takes over; as a performer she is well aware of the role of the artist’s body as the locus of the work itself. She often uses personal adornment as a means of further eroding the boundaries between her own body and that of sculptural materiality; whether bedecked in the jaws of some large fish as a clavicle-ornament, or wrapped and daubed, Velvet uses her own body as an instrument through which to channel sounds and responses that are integrally woven into the meaning and fabric of her performances.’ Pat Hoffie
