BVJF respects and acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of the land as the Turrbal people. The Brisbane Vocal Jazz Festival (BVJF) and Brisbane Jazz Club’s (BJC) intention and philosophy is to promote vocal excellence and diversity in Queensland so that all jazz singers feel supported and encouraged to excel in their own hometown, as well as present world-class performances to a dedicated and growing audience.
Over the years, we have been able to enjoy the vocal talents of local, national and international artists, including the acclaimed improvisational master, Rhiannon (USA) and Grammy-award winning pianist Laurence Hobgood (USA); artists from Eastern Europe such as Wojciech Myrezek and Pawel Tomaszewski from Poland, SKETY from Czech Republic, The Idea of North, Nicki Parrott, Wilma Reading (inductee of National Indigenous Music Awards Hall of Fame), Torres Strait elder Bill Lowah, inVoices (Queensland Conservatorium Vocal Emsemble), Museaus Contemporary Ensemble, Fem Belling, Sharny Russell, Nic Jeffries, Dan Barnett, Jacki Cooper, Grammy Award winner – Nicole Zuraitis (NY), Naomi Andrew, Rai Thistlethwayte…and many more.
Building audiences in the arts through these collaborative industry and community -based events help to shapeshift the artistic possibilities, both in acceptance for the jazz artform, as well as provide some deeper purpose and goals for artists longer term projects.
BVJF is dedicated to promoting the artform of jazz voice, mentoring and education in Queensland. BVJF (auspiced by Brisbane Jazz Club) supports inclusivity and diversity in performances in the Arts, including First Nations, multicultural, multi-generational artists.
